Sports2

Northeast Campus - Tarrant County College issued the following announcement on Feb. 27

Amember of the Tarrant County College family is one step closer to chasing gold at the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo, and she is ready for prime time.

On Saturday, Feb. 29, Liz Northern, a research analyst at TCC, will be one of 400 women competing for three spots on the 2020 U.S. Olympic marathon team.

Northern qualified for the Olympic Trials after running a 2:43:54 at the Houston Marathon in January. Since joining TCC in 2018, this mother of two young children has run more than 4,700 miles to prepare for the race.

The 2020 U.S. Marathon Trials will air live from Atlanta on NBC, NBCSports.com/live and the NBC Sports app. The men will begin at 11:08  a.m. CT, followed by the women at 11:20.

Be sure to look for Liz, who will be wearing bib number 331.

Track the runners during the race

“From hearing tales of an early morning run or seeing pictures of sunrises captured on her many miles on the Trinity trails, TCC’s IR team has enjoyed tremendously supporting Liz Northern’s journey to the 2020 Olympic Trials.,” said TCC’s Executive Director of Institutional Research Rosemary Reynolds. “When Liz isn’t crunching numbers for Institutional Research, she’s supporting her husband and raising her two beautiful children.  Liz is truly inspiring, and we’ll be rooting her on as she runs Saturday.”

This isn’t the first time Northern has qualified for the Trials. Amazingly, a few days after finishing the 2016 Olympic Trials, Northern learned that she was pregnant with her first child.

This local running sensation was recently named a 2020 40 under 40 honoree by the Fort Worth Business Press.
