Benbrook issued the following announcement on March 18
Benbrook Mayor Jerry Dittrich is asking all Benbrook businesses and organizations to comply with the Amended Order he issued this week in an effort to slow the spread of COVID-19, the coronavirus.
That Order, which is in accordance with the recommendations of the President of the United States, strongly urges individuals to avoid gatherings of 10 or more persons anywhere in the City. The Amended Order further states that this recommendation applies not only to those individuals who are considered at “high-risk” for contracting the virus, but to all members of our community.
“We know many of our local businesses have already been negatively impacted by the coronavirus pandemic,” the Mayor said. “So this is not a recommendation we make lightly.”
The Mayor originally issued an Order on Monday, May 16, prohibiting gatherings of 250 or more people, and urging individuals considered at high-risk for becoming infected to avoid any gathering of 10 people or more. That same day, he also issued a Declaration of Local Disaster; that declaration makes the community eligible to receive federal and state assistance with any needed response and recovery.
The Amended Order was issued on Tuesday, in response to the updated recommendations of federal, state and county officials. The Amended Order has been in effect since 4 p.m. Tuesday, March 17.
As of Wednesday afternoon, March 18, Tarrant County Public Health reported a total of nine confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the county and one confirmed death. Among those confirmed cases is a Benbrook resident.
“We understand this is a very difficult and uncertain time,” the Mayor said, “But this is not a time to panic – it is a time to practice the recommended precautions to help prevent the spread of the virus and safeguard the community. Benbrook always pulls together when called upon, and I believe we will pull together to fight this as well.”
City officials are monitoring the COVID-19 situation closely, and carefully considering each possible action. In the event of a medical emergency, public safety teams have the appropriate precautions in place and are prepared to respond quickly.
