Benbrook issued the following announcement on April 8
Mayor Dr. Jerry Dittrich encourages Benbrook citizens to continue to follow the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommendations to help slow the spread of the coronavirus.
“We are experiencing a serious public health crisis, and each of us plays an important role in slowing the spread of this virus.” Mayor Dittrich states, “Practicing social distancing and good hygiene, and avoiding gatherings or non-essential trips to the grocery store or pharmacy are small, but powerful steps we can all take.”
“On behalf of Benbrook city council, we ask that our residents take seriously the CDC recommendations for containing the spread of COVID-19.”
Mayor Dittrich reminds citizens that they can still enjoy our parks, while maintaining safe distances from others -- a 6-foot separation. “Getting some fresh air and exercise are healthy ways to cope. Our parks and green spaces can still be enjoyed safely. By keeping our distance during outdoor activities, and avoiding gatherings, we greatly lessen risks to ourselves and to others.” The Mayor implores all residents and visitors to avoid Easter celebrations in Benbrook parks this weekend.
As of April 7, 2020, Tarrant County Public Health reported a total of 452 positive coronavirus cases in Tarrant County; 41 have recovered, with 13 deaths. Benbrook has had five positive cases, with two recovered.
The Tarrant County stay-in-place executive order, originally announced on March 24, was amended on April 3, 2020 to extend until April 30, 2020. Benbrook City Hall is closed until that time, or as the order is modified. Essential public safety and sanitation services are ongoing. City staff is available to take citizen calls during normal business hours: 817-249-3000.
Mayor Dittrich issued, and City Council adopted by Resolution, an updated Declaration of Local Disaster on March 19, making the City eligible to receive federal and state assistance for any needed response and recovery.
"We are in this together," the Mayor concluded, "and we will get through this together.”
