Lifting restrictions from COVID-19 are in sight as count leaders work on a plan to reopen the economy, according to Tarrant County Judge Glen Whitley.
"Hopefully by the end of that first week or second week of May, we can begin to lessen the restrictions and let this economy begin to grow again,” he told NBCDFW on April 20. "We did everything we felt like we needed to do to make sure our hospitals didn't get overrun and I think we were successful."
Being able to start re-opening businesses will help small, local businesses that have been struggling throughout the coronavirus pandemic. But Whitley said there are likely to be new rules to help control crowd sizes and check for temperatures, according to NBCDFW. Moving too fast could risk lives, he said.
A model from the University of Washington showed that coronavirus deaths in Texas peaked on April 15 and that the number of deaths could fall to zero in mid-May.
