Tarrant County College issued the following announcement on May 8
Students at Tarrant County College dealing with challenges related to the COVID-19 pandemic are able to apply for funds provided by the U.S. Department of Education through the CARES Act Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (HEERF).
Beginning next week, TCC will distribute approximately $10.9 million in emergency grants to eligible students based on their socioeconomic circumstances. It could several days for students to receive their money, according to TCC officials.
Although the monetary size of each grant will vary, the need is the main factor officials will use when making decisions about the amount. Emergency aid can cover a student’s cost of attendance, which includes course materials, technology, health care and child care. An eligible student may be awarded up to a maximum of $1,000.
“TCC hopes these grants will help mitigate some of the disruption students have felt during this pandemic,” said TCC Chancellor Eugene Giovannini. “As students continue their studies, we want them to know TCC remains committed to finding ways to support students through this crisis.”
Those eligible to receive grants include students enrolled at Tarrant County College for spring 2020, summer 2020 or fall 2020; students who are eligible for financial aid; and students not enrolled exclusively in TCC Connect online courses as of March 13. TCC students who have faced financial hardship but do not qualify for federal funding can still apply for the Student Eliminating Barriers Emergency Assistance Fund.
TCC’s allocation was based on the number of Pell Grant-eligible students enrolled at the community college, and to a lesser extent, the size of its student population.
