Fort Worth was awarded almost $160 million in federal COVID-19 relief, which the city has put toward small businesses.
City officials said $10 million of the aid would be used for the "Preserve the Fort" small business grant program, Community Impact Newspaper reported.
“These grants are critical to helping support and preserve the city’s small business community, which has helped define so much of Fort Worth’s character,” Robert Sturn, economic development director, told Community Impact. “As businesses across the state start to reopen, these grants can help offset some of the costs from the recent shutdown and provide a way forward for those small businesses who have been hit hardest.”
Businesses eligible for a loan must have 250 employees or fewer, be registered in the state of Texas, and have been operating since at least September 2019, according to Community Impact.
Independent contractors, area nonprofits and self-employed workers are also eligible for grants, which will be from $5,000 to $50,000 depending on the size of the business.
Small businesses can apply for grants through June 8 on the city's website.
