The City of Fort Worth recently received approximately $158 million in funding from the CARES Act, from which it put $5 million toward small business assistance for minorities.

According to WBAP News Talk, from May 26 to June 8, the city partnered with the United Way of Tarrant County in an effort to distribute $10 million to Fort Worth small businesses that were devastated by the COVID-19 financial crisis. The funds were set aside to keep businesses afloat until things return to normal.

Officials distributed $2.5 million to supporting minority-owned businesses as an incentive to refrain from shutting down permanently. Another $2.5 million was set aside for businesses located in the city’s "Neighborhood Empowerment Zones."

All the grant applications were processed with the help of associates at the Fort Worth Chamber of Commerce. Additionally, the Fort Worth Metropolitan Black Chamber of Commerce and the Fort Worth Hispanic Chamber of Commerce joined in sorting out the applications.
