City of Keller officials passed a property tax homestead exemption increase in an effort to provide citizens additional relief from the economic impact of COVID-19.
This was the fifth consecutive year Keller City Council approved such an increase, with this year’s total homestead exemption being 14%.
“From fiscal year 2015-16 to the current year, we’ve actually reduced the tax rate by 10% ... down to $0.3999,” Aaron Rector, Keller’s director of finance, told Community Impact Newspaper.
The publication reported that Keller residents have more options to mitigate property taxes, such as a $40,000 exemption for residents age 65 and over and a $10,000 disability exemption.
Rector said the property tax levy assessed on residents is a combination of the city rate and their home’s market value, with other entities such as the Keller school district and the Tarrant County Hospital District contributing to the total property tax.
The increase will save Keller property owners an additional $231 per year.
