COLLEYVILLE: Mosquito Samples Test Positive for WNV

Mosquito1

Colleyville issued the following announcement on July 9

On Tuesday, July 7, Tarrant County Health Department notified the City of Colleyville that 2 mosquito samples tested positive for West Nile virus. The positive samples were located near Windermere Court and Forest Meadow Dr.

The test sites will be treated with larvacide and are scheduled for continued treatment and testing. Residents within a quarter-mile of the sample areas were notified by Code RED.

While the City is proactively working to control mosquito populations throughout town, citizen involvement, and personal protection is essential. The best defense is to practice these habits, known as the "Three Ds":

  1. Use insect repellent containing DEET, picaridin, or oil of lemon eucalyptus.
  2. Dress in long sleeves and long pants when you are outside.
  3. Drain standing water where mosquitos breed. Common breeding sites include old tires, flowerpots, and clogged rain gutters.
For more information, visit the City of Colleyville's Mosquito Control and Management page or go to Tarrant County's Mosquito Prevention page.
