Tarrant County has teamed up with Kroger and Albertsons/Tom Thumb pharmacies to offer free flu shots through Dec. 30 to residents without health insurance.

”With COVID-19 surging across North Texas, it is important we do everything possible to keep the flu season under control and maintain hospital capacity,” Tarrant Public Health Director Vinny Taneja said in a post on the City of Arlington website. ”This public-private partnership provides broader access to free flu vaccine, making it easier for anyone in Tarrant County to get a flu shot this season.”

The Arlington City website post states giving uninsured individuals access to flu shots will help healthcare systems that have been burdened from the pandemic.

“Though the flu vaccine will not protect against COVID-19, we are confident this effort will reduce hospitalizations and deaths, thereby conserving vital healthcare resources,” Jeff Loesch, director of pharmacy for Kroger Health Dallas Division, said in the website post.
