Town of Trophy issued the following announcement on Dec. 18
According to an article published by the Dallas Morning News, business insurance resource AdvisorSmith tabulated the safest cities using 2019 crime reports from the FBI, which covered both property crimes and violent crimes, including murder, assault, motor vehicle theft, and burglary — with more weight being placed on violent crimes. The average crime score for Texas was 48 points, though cities ranged from 6 to 371.
"With all of the challenges we have faced throughout 2020, we have been able to keep our Town as one of the safer places to live in Texas," stated Chief Patrick Arata. "Not only have we done an excellent job as a community keeping the crime rates low, but the police involvement and community presence have also enabled our town to move up in the rankings from 3rd to 2nd! I am extremely proud of our team and citizens for helping to keep our city safe! Here’s to 2021 and working towards being the number one safest city in Texas!"
The study separates the 655 cities into three lists, based on population size to “provide meaningful comparisons on reported crime rates.” There were 418 small cities, 198 mid-size cities and 39 large cities.
Cities that reported fewer than two months of crime data to the FBI were excluded from the study, while cities that reported more than two months but fewer than 12 months were scaled, so their crime statistics would be comparable to the cities that reported for the entire year.
“With Trophy Club being ranked the #2 safest city is a great compliment to the men and women of the Trophy Club Police Department for their dedication and commitment to providing an extremely high level of service,” Town Manager Steve Norwood said. “However, it’s equally a compliment to the residents who assist us on a daily basis, by being the eyes and ears of the community and also have high expectations for law enforcement in their community with a high level of service.”
